I didn’t always love beer.
I had my first taste when I was probably 5 or 6 years old, stolen from my dad’s can of Coors. Or was it Black Label when he left it on the porch he was building one warm summer day? It tasted flat, strongly of aluminum, and generally yucky. To this day I can’t stand beer in a can but the taste of beer grew on me.
I spent my 21st birthday in Buffalo Bill’s, a pioneer brewery in Hayward. I’ve since sampled beer in 18 countries. Every December I’m filled with despair because I can’t attend the Anchor Steam Brewing Co.’s annual party because it coincides with our Holiday Gathering (December 8th by the way – see you there!).
So it was with great excitement that I picked up Brewed Awakening: Behind the beers and brewers leading the world’s craft brewing revolution.
This nifty little book by Joshua Bernstein is the “ultimate beer geek’s guide” to craft brewing today. Full of “beers to try”, quirky labels from around the world, brewers’ philosophies on life, brewing, and beer, beer fest announcements (mark your calendars), this book would make an excellent gift for the beer lover closest to your heart.
If you love beer too we have several other books on the craft of brewing, beer culture, and beer pairing. Check the 641’s and 663’s on Balcony 2A or search our catalog for “beer” – that’s easy enough!
Cheers!
