After Six: Chess for Adults

Did you learn how to move the chess pieces as a child? Would you like to learn more? This class is for you! Join a small group of MI members in a relaxed setting to improve your chess skills. In four Wednesday evenings you will dramatically improve your game, learning: Major Openings, Check Mate Patterns, and Endgame Strategies.

This class meets four Wednesdays in March:

  • March 4th, 11th, 18th, and 25th

The admission fee for this event covers all four classes.

Ewelina Krubnik learned how to play the game from her father, but it was at the Mechanics' Institute's Saturday class for kids that she really developed her chess skills. Currently rated among the top 100 women in the country by the  US Chess Federation rating list, she counts a draw with former World Champion Boris Spassky when he gave a simultaneous exhibition at the MI in 2006. Ewelina teaches the Mechanics' Sunday Women’s Chess Class and looks forward to teaching the intricacies of the game to students in this Wednesday night class.
