Reference
service
reference@milibrary.org
The Library
houses a well developed reference collection and a staff of professional
librarians with subject expertise in the humanities, social sciences,
business and finance. Make a request in person at the Reference
Desk, telephone 393-0102, fax or email
your question. Please remember that we can only handle
inquiries of library members.
Considering membership? We
can advise you whether we hold particular title(s), and indicate
the depth of coverage in a particular subject area. The Library
collections used to hold a significant number of technical and engineering-related
titles, but today the holdings cover a broad, general range of topics.
A full description of
our holdings will note its strengths, the range of subject matter,
formats, and collection development policies.

Web
searching
| Terminals are available for members to search the
Web .....eight on the 3rd floor and two on the 2nd floor. Sign-in
sheets are located at the Reference and Circulation Desks. Members
may sign up for one-hour search sessions. Staff are available
to assist members in searching the Web. Wireless access
is also available on the 2nd and 3rd floors to members with laptop
computers. |
Interlibrary
loan
| Looking for a particular
book that is years out of print and hard to locate? The Library
can borrow materials not in our collection but available for loan
from other libraries. It takes about three weeks to fill an interlibrary
loan request, and the average loan period is three to four weeks.
You can print out an interlibrary
loan form, complete it and fax it back to the Library. If
you would like us to locate a library that holds a particular title
in its collection (but not actually request it), we can find holdings
for you. |
Books:
| The
charge is $10.00 per book plus any lending library fees.
We try to borrow from local libraries to minimize turnaround time
and cost in filling your request. |
Journal and newspaper articles:
| Members
frequently request photocopies of magazine or newspaper articles
for titles that are not in our collections. We can locate libraries
that subscribe to particular journals or else archive older issues.
Most libraries will send us a photocopy rather than the actual hard
copy. Charge is $5.00 per request, plus any lending library's fees.
|
Photocopy
and fax
Photocopy and set aside for pickup:
|
Cost is $ 5.50 per article up to 15 pages. Additional pages cost
25 cents per page. You can send a messenger or pick up your request
personally. We will mail your copy request to you for the additional
cost of postage. |
Photocopy and fax documents:
The copy and fax
service is available Monday through Friday, between 9:00 am and
5:00 pm. You may call the Reference Desk with your request
(393-0102) email your request reference@milibrary.org
or else fax it to us, at 397-8747.
The charge is $8.50 per article
or item up to 15 pages. Additional pages cost 25 cents per page
within the 415, 510, 650 and 925 area codes. Add 50 cents per
page if your fax is being sent outside this local area.
