You and Me (1938)
September 2019 - Fritz Lang: Guilty Pleasures

Directed by Fritz Lang | Sylvia Sidney, George Raft

Jerome Morris is a businessman with a heart. He has made his department store a haven for ex-convicts in need of a fresh start. Two of his employees, Helen (Sylvia Sidney) and ex-convict Joe (George Raft), have fallen in love, but their romance is complicated by Helen hiding the fact that she’s an ex-convict too. Will Joe stay and the straight-and-narrow? Will Jerome’s faith in mankind be vindicated? A marked change of pace for Lang, this light-hearted almost-musical is enlivened by Kurt Weill songs.
