Defending Your Life (1991)
October 2019 - American Independents: Taking a Stand

Directed by Albert Brooks | Rip Torn, Meryl Streep

In this charming satire Albert Brooks plays Dan Miller, a successful LA advertising executive recently deceased in a car crash. Judgement City is a bland, squeaky-clean limbo where he and other souls must stay while their lives are assessed. If it's determined Dan has conquered his fears he'll be sent to the "next level." Otherwise, it's reincarnation and another round of life on earth. Albert Brooks is funny and touching as an everyman dismayed as he's confronted with the mistakes he made in life -- especially since he's fallen in love with Julia (Meryl Streep), another, more successful soul who may be leaving him behind.
