Book Riot hosts an annual “Read Harder” challenge, providing a list of topical and genre categories, spanning both fiction and non-fiction. Unlike the usual book group, M.I.’s new Book Riot Reading Club will fold in an element of surprise: at each quarterly meeting, members and guest librarians will give 3-5 minute book talks on a book they’ve loved during the previous quarter. Then we’ll discuss the featured book with a round of questions to get the conversation going.
At the inaugural meeting, the librarian will explain the Read Harder Challenge, answer any questions you may have, and then the group will discuss Stephen Karam’s The Humans. This play is set during a tense Thanksgiving, where a Pennsylvania family gathers in their daughter’s Manhattan apartment. It won the Tony Award for Best Play in 2016, and it meets one of the usual challenge tasks: “read a play”.
If you're working towards the Read Harder goals for this year, you can track your progress and share recommendations with other participants; or maybe you just want to chat about the most recent book you’ve read and find out what everyone else is loving. If you’d like to read outside your comfort zone and enjoy BYO lunch while chatting with fellow members about your reading, M.I.’s new Book Riot Reading Club might be just what you’re looking for!
