Occasionally Mechanics’ has specific, unique projects that need funding. If you have an interest in knowing more, please contact Ralph Lewin at 415-393-0117 or email@example.com. Framing of the Adair Drawings: $2,400 The Adair drawings are five stunning 2 foot x 3 foot drawings which won an award in the Mechanics’ Institute’s 31st Exposition. Jim Schein tells us these drawings are exceptional in many ways. We will frame and hang them in the public areas of 57 Post Street, much as we did with the Miguel Covarrubias prints on the 7th floor. Help Our Youth Chess Outreach In March 2012 we hired an outreach director, chess grandmaster Nick de Firmian, to expand our program of free chess instruction to kids in schools. This public service is currently provided to sixteen San Francisco schools/community centers, and we plan to expand to four more Bay Area schools by the end of 2013. Ways to give Donating library materials or supporting an Endowed Book Fund Sponsor a special project Estate planning Chair Appeal Reasons to give Membership dues cover only 10% of the Institute’s operating costs; the building rents and the investment portfolio cover the next 62% of the annual expenses. Contributions are essential to our ability to sustain our programs and services. Therefore the Institute needs the support of its members' donations to maintain the level of service excellence it has provided since 1854.
