Sam Shankland, American Chess Grandmaster
Sam Shankland is an American Chess Grandmaster and the 2018 US Chess Champion. He is a 10-year veteran on the US Olympic Team, a two-time Olympic Gold Medalist (2014 and 2016) and one-time Silver Medalist (2018), a former World U18 co-champion (2008), and the winner of dozens of international tournaments across four continents. His peak FIDE rating of 2731 FIDE placed him at #21 in the world. In addition to his playing career, he has worked as an analyst for World Champion Magnus Carlsen in preparation for the 2014 and 2016 World Championship matches. He has also published three books as well as nine online opening database courses, and he is a co-owner and co-founder of Killer Chess Training.

Join Grandmaster and former US Champion Sam Shankland for a masterclass at the Mechanics' Institute. There are limited spots available, so don't miss this unique opportunity to learn directly from one of the greats. Participants will have the chance to select from topics curated by Sam and are expected to have a USCF rating of 1500+. Players with a lower rating will also be considered, but will be admitted at the staff's discretion and should email chessroom@milibrary.org.
