Darren Mathews is a black Texas Ranger working the backwoods of Highway 59, an area he grew up in and dreamed of leaving. When Ranger Mathews is called deep into the backwoods to a town called Lark to solve a case of two murders: a black lawyer from Chicago and a local white woman. Racial tensions of the region convince Mathews that there may be a connection between these murders. Bluebird, Bluebird won the 2018 Edgar Award for best novel.
