Bento and Capitu marry despite their parent’s reluctance. The narrator, Bento, begins to suspect their son is not his. Machado de Assis’ 1899 fictional memoir Dom Casmurro is a celebrated work of Brazilian realism. Visit the World Literature book group to discuss this work that was stylistically ahead of its time.
