Learn more about the Census 2020

The US Census Bureau is gearing up for the largest peace-time operation of the federal government: the decennial count of our nation's population. In this talk, Census Partnership Specialist Bret Putnam will discuss the importance of the count (it determines political representation, and allocation of federal funding), why we do it (it's mandated by the constitution), and how it will be carried out (hundreds of enumerators will be hired in San Francisco). The Census Bureau is relying on new technology for 2020, with a first-time option to complete the census on-line, or by phone; the traditional paper form will also be available. Bret will also speak about the challenge of enumerating San Francisco, a city of great diversity, and the Bureau's data confidentiality safeguards.
