Directed by Albert Lewin
George Sanders, Angela Lansbury
George Sanders is at his most reptilian in this account of a cad's rise through 19th Century French society. George Duroy ascends, woman by woman, from clerk, to journalist, to powerful gossip columnist, at last setting his sites on the ultimate prize – an aristocratic heiress. This is not Pre-code, so alas, Duroy must be punished by the end. Fortunately any words of contrition from someone played by George Sanders will be taken with a grain of salt.
