The Summer Book
by Tove Jannson

book cover

Six-year-old Sophia and her grandmother are summertime inhabitants on an unspoiled island in the Gulf of Finland. Through twenty-two vignettes, Jannson illustrates how small events feel monumental, and how both the young and old ask similar questions of life. Tove Jannson- who gained international acclaim through the Moomintroll comic strip- spent much of her life on an island like the one described in The Summer Book. The Summer Book was translated from Swedish to English by Thomas Teal.
