Book cover for Wise Blood

Wise Blood, Flannery O'Connor's astonishing first novel, is a classic of twentieth-century literature. It is the story of Hazel Motes, a twenty-two-year-old caught in a struggle against his fate. He falls under the spell of a street preacher named Asa Hawks and his degenerate fifteen-year-old daughter, Sabbath Lily. Motes founds the Church Without Christ and meets Enoch Emery, a young man with "wise blood," whose inexplicable maneuvers are a manifestation of Motes's existential struggles. Come dig deeply into the text of this novel with members of the World Literature Book Group.

This group meets on the first and third Wednesdays of the month (excluding holidays). All MI members are welcome to drop in to these meetings.
