The Writers' Lunch: The Horror: How to Create Suspense, Fear, and Spookiness In Your Writing
moderated by Taryn Edwards

Friday, October 21, 2022 - 12:00pm to 1:00pm

This event is produced in collaboration with Sisters in Crime Norcal Chapter. It will be conducted via Zoom. Register and you will be emailed the Zoom credentials.

The Writers' Lunch is virtually back! This month librarian Taryn Edwards will moderate the discussion The Horror: How to Create Suspense, Fear, and Spookiness In Your Writing with writers Patricia Dusenbury, Vinnie Hansen, and Catriona McPherson.

Patricia Dusenbury is a member of the Mechanics' Institute's writing community. Her first book, A Perfect Victim, won the 2015 EPIC (Electronic Publishing Industry Coalition) award for best mystery. The sequels, Secrets, Lies & Homicide and A House of Her Own, were finalists for the EPIC award in 2016 and 2017. Although her fiction is all about murder and mayhem, she is a law-aiding citizen who enjoys time with family and friends, gardening, taking the grandkids to the beach, reading and writing.

Vinnie Hansen is the author of the Carol Sabala mystery series, the novels Lostart Street and One Gun, as well as over fifty short works. Still sane(ish) after 27 years of teaching high school English, Vinnie has retired and plays keyboards with ukulele groups in Santa Cruz where she lives with her husband and the requisite cat.

More about Catriona McPherson can be found on her website or on Facebook or Twitter. Her novel In Place of Fear was published in June.

Join us, share and learn!

The Writers' Lunch is a casual brown-bag lunch activity on the 3rd Friday of each month. Look forward to mini-reviews on books that have been added to our "literary craft" collection, informal presentations by member writers, and excellent conversation.
