The Freshman (1990)
May 2015: Reel Acting

Directed by Andrew Bergman
Marlon Brando, Matthew Broderick

Carmine Sabatini: [Looking around the dorm] So, this is college. I didn't miss nothing.

"There have been a lot of movies where stars have repeated the triumphs of their parts," observed Roger Ebert when this film was released in 1990. "But has any star ever done it more triumphantly than Marlon Brando does in The Freshman?" In this offbeat comedy Marlon Brando once again plays Vito Corleone – except that his name is Carmine Sabatini, aka "Jimmy the Toucan" and instead of importing Olive Oil, he smuggles in… Well, let’s just say illegal drugs or bootleg liquor would be less complicated and daunting for the college freshman he sends to pick up the shipment. Matthew Broderick plays first year film student Clark Kellogg, who suddenly finds himself involved with organized crime, exotic animals, and an illegal gourmet restaurant.
