The story of sisters and rival musicians Hilary and Jacqueline Du Pres is told in this film from two points of view, first flautist Hilary’s, then cellist Jackie’s. Both are talented and dedicated, both are helped and hindered by teachers and parents, and both are fiercely dedicated to each other. This exploration of competition and love is driven by a compelling script and stand-out performances by Rachel Griffiths as Hillary and Emily Watson as Jackie.
