Directed by Jacques Touneur | Robert Mitchum, Jane Greer
Jeff Bailey, a gas station owner in California, is forced to come clean about his past to his trusting girlfriend Ann, when an outsider comes to town with strange summons for Jeff. He comes clean to her on the long drive to Tahoe, revealing a story involving private investigators, a treacherous runaway girlfriend, and of course, a lot of money. And that’s just in the flashback. Time does not unspool in this film. It coils, a history of betrayals, bad decisions, and violence tightening like a noose around a man who thought he could leave his mistakes behind.
