Join author and publisher Brooks Roddan in a discussion about both sides of the coin: writing and publishing! Operating under the conviction that all writing is inspiration-based, his press, IFSF Publishing, actively looks for that inspiration with a determination to publish voices that deserve to be heard. Mr. Roddan will discuss publication of his new book Mare Island as well as the types of projects that he looks for as a publisher. If you are interested in dispensing with the traditional writer-publisher model, Mr. Roddan’s real life experiences will help guide your own project.
Brooks Roddan lives in San Francisco's historic Presidio district and escapes as often as he can to his cabin in Wyoming. A poet, he's written seven chapbooks and books, including The Light of the Light, (Blue Earth Press), The Frog Club (Readymade Books) and Days by Themselves (Blue Earth).
Writing as Thomas Fuller, a pseudonym, his first novel Monsieur Ambivalence, received an award in the Fiction Category at the 2014 Next Generation Indie Book Awards. Mare Island is his first book of non-fiction.
Founded in 1999 in Los Angeles as If Publications and now located in San Francisco's Presidio, IF SF is a not-for-profit press that has published books in a range of genres, including memoir, poetry, and photography. IF SF books are now in the archives of both private and institutional collectors in the U.S. and abroad.
The IF SF imprint, praised in the past for publishing the work of 'voices that deserve to be heard in books of visually arresting formats' is known for taking a collaborative approach to each project, inviting the artist to take part in the creation of the book. Each IF SF book is published in the medium best suited to the material.
While continuing to focus on the literary and graphic arts, IF SF remains open to the projects of interest in other categories.
