Murder at the Vanities (1934)
January 2017 - Pre-Code: Adult Entertainment

Directed by Mitchell Leisen
Victor McLaglen, Kitty Carlisle

Murder at the Vanities is an unhinged musical that pushes the dial up to 11. Besides portraying interracial dancing and callous murder, there is lots of flesh on display and an entire song extolling the virtues of "Sweet Marihuana." Victor McLaglen stars as Bill Murdock, a detective investigating a series of murders during opening night. When private detective Sadie Evans (Gail Patrick) is found murdered, Murdock must investigate between musical numbers to find the killer.
